Baby David: Five Months

It’s been five months since David was born. In some ways the last five months have gone by quickly, and in other ways it feels like much longer than five months. He continues to grow and learn each day.

Fun facts about David at five months:

  • He can almost roll over from his back to his stomach. He gets about halfway and then rolls back onto his back. (Last month, he learned to roll from his stomach to his back).
  • Two days ago, we started feeding him rice cereal once a day. It’s fun (and funny) to watch him learn to eat from a spoon.
  • His giggles are so cute. He generally only giggles at night right before bath time as we’re taking off his clothes. I’m not sure why we can’t get him to giggle other times in the day.
  • He still loves bath time.
  • He sleeps about 13 hours at night (7 p.m. – 8:30 a.m.), but has started waking up 1-2 times a night (around 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.). If we put his pacifier in his mouth, he’ll generally fall right back to sleep.
  • He’s not the world’s best napper. We’re still trying to take a consistent nap in the morning and in the afternoon. However, I can’t complain because he sleeps so well at night.
  • He’s started grunting when he’s not happy and arching his back when he wants to change positions.
  • He’s becoming a lot more coordinated with his hands. He can pick up a toy and put it in his mouth.
  • We’ve started putting him to bed with mittens on again because he seems to pull out his pacifier right when we put him down (and will start crying), and he’s not coordinated enough to put it back in.
  • He still LOVES to bounce in his bouncer.
  • He likes when people play peek-a-boo with him.
  • He’s officially a crib sleeper! Since he can almost roll over to his stomach from his back, we’ve stopped swaddling him and he now wears a sleep sack to bed.
