Funny Moments (in hindsight)

Life is full of moments that sometimes start out as frustrating or scary, but in hindsight are pretty funny. I figured I would share a couple of those recent moments in my life…

Moment 1: Last Saturday, while unloading the dishwasher, I accidentally knocked the bottom rack off of its tracks. When I went to put it back, I noticed that our plastic salad tongs had fallen to the bottom of the dishwasher. I grabbed the tongs and they wouldn’t budge… The heating element at the bottom of the dishwasher had melted the tongs, and as the plastic cooled, it hardened around the element. Oh boy.

So I went downstairs and told John that I had something kind of “annoying” that I needed to show him. He came upstairs and took a look. We feared we may need to get a new heating element. John broke off the parts of the tongs that would come off easily. And then we used acetone nail polish remover to try and get off more of the plastic. (That idea came from google.) We had the thought to look at GE’s website, since we own a GE dishwasher. This issue must pop up on a somewhat frequent basis because GE’s website had instructions for how to remove melted plastic from the heating element at the bottom of the dishwasher. We followed the instructions, and while we’re now down a set of salad tongs, our dishwasher is as good as new.

Moment 2: John was on a work trip Monday to Wednesday of this past week. We try and talk on the phone or FaceTime each night while he’s away. On Tuesday evening, while we’re talking on the phone, I hear someone coming into our house. I’m in the kitchen, and it sounds like the intruder is coming in through the door that goes out to the garage through the mudroom. My heart starts racing super fast, and I immediately run to our front door so I can get away before the intruder opens the mudroom door and enters the kitchen. Please keep in mind that I’ve already gotten ready for bed and I have no idea where I’m going to go once I get outside. Well, guess who the intruder was… JOHN. He had decided to come home a night early and surprise me. And boy was I ever surprised. My heart was racing so fast that all I could say when I realized it was him was “I hate you…I hate you…I hate you…” while laughing and regaining my composure at the same time. He scared me SO bad! It was hilarious though.

The Boys at Starbucks Think Mormons are the Nicest

Tonight John and I went on a date to Reston Town Center. We headed to his favorite burger restaurant, The Counter. The host said there would be a 30 minute wait. We decided to walk around outside, but it was cold. So, we stopped in Starbucks to get some caramel apple cider. As the baristas were preparing our drinks, they were talking (quite loudly) about which religion is the nicest. Mind you, the baristas are like high school age boys. They all came to the conclusion that Mormons are the nicest because they “turn the other cheek…” Their words, not mine. John and I just looked at each other and smiled. It was so funny.
